You are using a car radio with an UPS battery. I want to learn more about the power brick you are using. Is there a link for one?

Steve:
As I mentioned before I made a box and put a battery and a power relay inside along with the appropriate terminals on the front panel. It was not a purchased unit so there is no link to it. If you are referring to the "power brick" on the top, it is just a standard commercially available SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) charger and there are lots of them on the web to go with any sized SLA battery.. Just google SLA charger.

OK Tom . . . walk to the nearest wall in your house -- face the wall with your nose about 6-inches from the surface -- and repeat what you have said about your adapted car radio.

That is the sound of your voice as it would be heard by "deaf ears."

WOO-HOO !!!!! :angry-banghead:

I just wanted a link to one. I don't need the forum A-hole to say a word.

You are the reason DIY is dead. You can't or won't pass your experience or knowledge down to others.

---------------

One a side note: a SLA battery he is talking about is a personal UPS/alarm panel 12VDC battery from Batteries Plus.

From what I can tell, the charger looks like a laptop power supply (brick).

This is easy to build if you have a car radio or spare battery laying around. Just want safe in the operation of batteries, hence the questions.

Steve:

That size battery is the most common one that is used not only in UPS applications, but many other devices. It does not have to be that exact one, but it is usually the biggest bang for the buck because of competition. The charger is not a laptop charger but a charger specifically designed for SLA batteries. As I said there are lots of them on the web. Most laptop power supplies are designed to work with lithium batteries and will not work with SLAs.

I know it is not a laptop charger. From the picture, it looked like one. That's why I referred to it as such.

I was just curious if there was a particular one you would recommend. That's all.

I think your best course of action is to get one that works

It depends somewhat on the size of the battery. After you decide that you can go online and look at the recommendations for the charger based on battery size. A charger for a 3 AH battery will be different than one for a 30 AH battery. All the info is out there on line for you to find. That's part of the process so go for it.
