Hiya!

I am excited to have found this group. There are certainly many forums online, and I am a member of a few, but what has been missing is a local connection in the DC area. I've been looking for like-minded audio lovers to geek out with and am hoping I've finally found some.

I'm more of a generalist tinkerer than anything like an engineer. I built my Bottlehead Stereomour amplifier from a kit, following the instructions nervously and with little understanding of what each part does. My soldering skills were luckily on point, because it worked the first time and every time since for the past few years. It remains stock aside from some new tubes.

My speakers are of my own design and fabrication, but are really just boxes based on the T/S parameters for each driver. Each has a Fostex F120a in a sealed box on top, with a separate sealed chamber on the bottom housing a Dayton 8" woofer. The Fostex is running full range from my Bottlehead. The Dayton's signal comes from the Bottlehead at speaker level to a passive direct box, then down to a Crown digital amp with a built in electronic crossover. I've got it crossed over at around 200hz.

Sources include a ProJect Debut Carbon with a Shure m97xe cart running through a Bellari phono pre, and a media computer running FLAC files through a Halide HD USB DAC.

I think the system sounds pretty fantastic, but am always on the lookout for improvements, critiques or new projects. Hope I get the opportunity to meet some of you soon.

Cheers,
Mike

Great to hear from another person who gets their finger nails dirty. Looking forward to seeing you at one of the get togethers.
