Hi from South Africa

August 25th, 2016, 2:22 pm

Hi Roscoe,

I am a slightly over the hill, male last time I looked, living in South Africa. Hifi has been a lifelong hobby and always with DIY speaker systems using high efficiency drivers.

I currently use a TacT 2175 SADI amp with RCS2 Room Correction, a vintage Leak Stereo 20 and a pair of Parallel 300B mono blocks. Sources include Jolida CD, EMT 948 turntable, Otari tape decks and digital server via a Cambridge streamer.

My latest creation if that's the term, are stacked cloned Altec A7 cabinets and wooden multicell horns. Previous to that I owned what I call Double Autograph Tannoy speakers with two 15” Dual Concentrics per side – the Autograph being a rear loaded horn design.

Welcome aboard! That's quite the speaker system. Don't think I'm going to get to visit any time soon to hear it though

What are you using for drivers?

Welcome! Very cool looking speakers. Are the cloth covered portions vents/ports?

Could you describe your dual Autographs a bit more? I can't envisage how you would include the extra driver.

The Double Autographs also have 1 1/2" panel thicknesses including the inside ones. The horn mouths left and right grow height wise and have bee tweaked a bit too. Height of the cabinet is just over 6', weight is 630 pounds each (285kg)
Finish Imbuia but with slight staining

Good lord, those 15"s look small. I wonder how they organized the internals.

My guess is that they sound as nice as they look. The devil is in the details.
