Hello from Rockville

January 30th, 2018, 2:07 pm

Hi DC Audio. I'm in Rockville and have been interested in audio for many years. On the DIY front I've done a few projects from various kits. I refurbished a ST70 amp with a Welborne labs kit, built a hybrid solid state/tube preamp also from Welborne, and have repaired an aged pair of MB300 tube amps.

My interest ins 2-fold. I'd like to keep up to date on what's new in the DIY world looking for some projects that would be interesting to explore and also to find a home to various pieces of gear that I no longer use. I'm looking for a home for a pair of Acoustat 22 speakers with subwoofer, the MB300 amps (one needs the power system rebuilt), the ST70, and the Welborne hybrid preamp.

On the DIY front I've been listening almost exclusively to digital these days. I'd like to share my experiences and see how we can solve some problems with file storage, streaming distribution, and playback of high quality digital audio.

Welcome Doug. I have been in digital since 1981 when I got one of the first prototypes of the Phillips CD payer from a friend in Germany. I still have it but it no longer works. I will be receiving the Wavelet processor from my friend Bill Dudleston at Legacy Audio specifically set up for my egg speakers. That should be in the next month or so. I'll be using it to compare several different scenarios including active vs passive crossover and DSP correction vs no correction. I don't know how it will turn out but it should be interesting.

Welcome to the club, I guess we all know why you're here. I've been all digital for quite some time, have many TB of storage and can access all content from anywhere in the house. I know some people like to access from outside the house but I don't, personally. I do have a turntable, I use it to get the analog into digital format, works great.

This is a great group of people, can't say guys anymore since we've finally lured our first female into the group, with diverse interests and knowledge.
