From the design aspect where you run into problems with higher order passive crossovers using a specific alignment like a Linkwitz-Riley of more than 2 poles, variance from the design values, do not let the correct summing of the highpass and lowpass occur. You need better than 1% tolerances, so selected values from large batches of parts.

If values get further out, you can start having other alignments occur like elliptical for 4 pole filters, when you designed something else.

If you want say a Butterworth filter to add to the acoustic response of the driver to give a L-R alignment, then tolerances have to be tight again, or selected component values.

If you just want arbitrary alignments from PSPICE models that have some variance in frequency, amplitude and phase response, that can be done, but it does not give a specific alignment that maybe wanted for the design.

None of those are a problem with modern digital filters running on DSP systems. Other things might effect sound quality, but it is not the filter. It is what is designed to a specific alignment with user adjustment for F-3dB and magnitude, with the appropriate phase response for the design.
