Best tube amp book?

August 26th, 2017, 7:27 pm

Looking to learn more tube amp theory, not really build technique. Any suggestions for reading material? I have Morgan Jones' Valve Amplifiers. It's a bit dense for me; I would prefer something that assumed I knew less. It's also physically very large; I do most of my reading on the DC metro and it's a pain to lug around. I was going to buy the Kindle version, but I thought before I drop $60 on that ( ) I'd make sure the fine folks here don't have a better recommendation. Thanks!

Go to tubebooks.org and download a copy of the Radiotron Designers Handbook. It gets fairly dense too, but it's written for beginners. You could also download a copy of one of the early RCA tube manuals. They have a beginning section on theory that's pretty easy to follow.
