Post subject:  Inspector Morse's Turntable

I have been watching the "Inspector Morse" mysteries recently (I have the complete collection) and wondered what turntable he used. With a little research I found out it was the Roksan Xerxes -

I wonder if any of the turntable experts would have any comments about that particular turntable?

The Xerxes is a really nice table. My turntable is based on the motor/bearing/ and platter from Roksan. The plinth on mine was machined out of Delrin to deaden resonances and makes quite an improvement but the original turntable is VERY good. That Inspector Morse guy had class. Great show.

The very first episode of Morse revolves (pun intended) around a fictitious company (Richard's Audio) that built his turntable.

Excellent show and the spinoff "Lewis" is entertaining too!

The Xerxes was a nice sounding table. The cutout in the plinth attempting to isolate the bearing/platter from external vibrations was a clever idea. Unfortunately, the original table suffered from a defect where the plinth areas supporting the platter/bearing would sag over time. They did address this in later versions by adding a reinforcing plate to prevent sag.

I came VERY close to purchasing a Xerxes at one point but went the Well Tempered route instead.
