I was impressed with how nice the Thorens 160 (?) we used at a CAF a while back. I think it was Stu's TT with some MM cart. I have also owened a cheap copy of the Thorens in the form of a Dual CS-505 which is not all that impressive sounding.

I picked up a Thorens 160 Super, Grace 707 arm and got a new high compliance, low output MC (Denon 301/II). The sound is very nice, hard to belive how well this inexpensive setup sounds. It does not match my WT TT setup but I could happily live with this if I did not have something better. A good backup TT or second system TT.

OK. Now I get it. LP playback requires sufficient supply of a nice IPA (or in my case a nice Pilsner).

The world is a little better place after an IPA or two. I recommend trying it!

Now I know why my LP playback sounds so good. Either it's the beer or the single-malt Scotch. Hmmm. :o

I think that was my Thorens TD160C a few years ago?

Cool. I have idler drive, suspended/belt drive, and non-suspended bel drive TTs! They each have their charms.
