I forgot the Model 16 had op-amps. I have to say, though, I like its sound. Not love-it has no magic, but like. It strikes me as more "accurate" than my modded Dynacos and the D76. As a life-long percussionist, I like to hear the kick, and the stickwork on cymbals, etc. I also like hearing a downward bass line not get quieter and mushier as it goes down the neck. The 16 does all of this, but again, no magic. I'm starting a rebuild of an HK Citation II with a Jim McShane kit. I have hopes for that one. However, I've also been eyeing Transcendent Sound OTLs, which will have to wait until I get the horns up and running in the basement.

Thanks for the info on testers. I'll let you all know what I decide.

It's what people say it's how they say it.
This place should be a place of exchanging ideas, not boosting ones insecurities buy blasting one persons ideas as "crap".

It all makes the grass grow and the smell usually stays with the person who spreads it.

Another, excellent suggestion for tube testing is to send your tubes, particular output tubes (which are the hardest to properly test on any tube tester other than a mini-mite) to AEA as they have a great, lab-style setup and will report back the results with printouts. Their prices are quite reasonable and give much more accurate results than any tube tester you would run in to. They also use a modded TEK 576 curve tracer (like Dave Berning's) and send you the screen shots as well as their recommendations, so that is a good way, if not the best/cheapest way to go.
