My last word. I'm not trying to change anyone's "religion". I'm only replying to Stuart when he can't understand that to use a tool that has merit is not a bad thing and not the only way to come to a decision. I think most people are open minded enough to weigh all the options and make their own decision. Tom |

IMO, DBT, ABX etc do not belong to the audiophile arena as we are interested in the "best" sounding systems (subjectively). OTOH, If the goal is to establish the quality of consumer grade speakers in a big box stores, sure.... That being said, What makes Berning Amp so special? OTL Design? Pl. share your experiences with DIY OTL designs. I have an DIY OTL Preamp/Headphone Amp. Can bring it to next meeting. |

David's amps are OTL, but in a very different way from what we commonly think of as OTL. The difference is covered in his patent, and extract of which is attached. I have only heard David's amps a few times (not the top guys in the review) and they are always surprising, and very different from anything else I have ever experienced. The review article makes an important point of matching amp to speaker. My personal choice is to have a more romantic laid back sound, but nothing beats the clarity, and resolution the David's work produces if one prefers that. |

Good way to put it Paul. It is always what floats your boat. David and I lean towards realism and detail even though with some recordings (and sometimes my mood) that can be annoying. Ya pays your money and ya takes your choice. Tom |

That clarity, resolution and speed is often associated with OTL amps in general. I think Berning's amps (I have probably have heard 5-6 of them, at least 3 in my own system) have a *slightly* more laid back sound than some conventional OTLs, something I appreciate. I know this trend to extreme realism, clarity, resolution is the modern way. Its the direction the high end audio industry is going. The trouble is nothing is real except an unamplified live performance of acoustic instruments, and even that depends on the room. and where one sits and the amount of ear wax. My pursuit in my system shenanigans is the enjoyment of the music. |
