Post subject:  X and Y Capacitors in EMI Filters

Attached is a discussion of the type of capacitor to use when building an electromagnetic-interference (EMI) filter for a power supply.

It's a reminder not to use just any capacitor in this application because it may create safety issues. These caps are easy to obtain from common venders like Mouser and Digi-Key.

(Even if I don't get around to building things  , I still think about it and make plans! :shifty:

Great advice. In addition to straight capacitors they are also available with series resistors in the same package to act as snubbers.
