Just deleted over 99% (>4500) of the registered users, all but maybe two or three of which were spammers, the rest of which registered months ago but never sent an intro post.... Took me all morning, can't select more than 25 at a time for deletion.... Need to keep up with that so I don't get behind, but I just figured out yesterday how to delete more than one at a time ;)

The user purge should have fixed another problem, slow notifications of new posts. As a countermeasure to keep my server from being identified as sending spam, the forum was setup to only send e-mail notifications 20 at a time, as you can imagine with new users getting notifications by default, 4500+ emails is a lot of batches. I've increased the batch size, and if I can keep up with deleting the spammers, new message notifications should once again be nearly instantaneous. I'm trying a new spambot registration countermeasure that should hopefully cut out some of the spam registrations, there were some days in November where we had >200 spam registrations in a single day :angry-banghead:

I also upgraded the forum software to the latest release today, please let me know if you see any problems....

Roscoe

Many thanks, Roscoe, I wondered where the BB went.

There were 36 registered users when I posted this. Now there are 120. Damn spammers. At least I haven't had to delete a bunch of spam new user introductions yet... :angry-cussingblack:
