Has anyone tried triaxial cable for speaker wires where you forget about the center conductor and use the two insulated braids for the + and - connections. The reason I am asking is in a active speaker system (separate amplifier for each driver) you want to minimize cross talk (coupling) between the cables for each of the drivers.

I haven't, but I have had amazing success with Andrew Heliax. The Heliax steps out of the way -- doesn't editorialize -- transparency to the audio signal is an understatement -- and it is very musical.

Back in the late 60's and early 70's I was on three underground nuclear tests in Nevada. After each test thousands of feet of the heliax cable were trashed (it was still good and not radioactive).

That would have been an amazing freebie!

I've been using Sommer SC-Magellan coax speaker cable in the studio lately. It's a great sounding cable and easy to work with. Disclaimer : I use a lot of Sommer cable in my proaudio business, so I'm a bit biased.

This is more easily available so I will use it -

Again my major concern for 4-way stereo speakers is coupling between the cables for the drivers especially if I try to make the cabling neat by taping the cables together. Using coaxial cables should eliminate any coupling. Note that you can even have coupling in a cable with four twisted pairs such as Belden makes.

The issue with Mogami cable is the dielectric -- PVC. Not recommended. Then there is the fact that it is stranded. I found that stranded speaker cable muddies the mid-range and treble with a tendency to be "grainy."

I have a friend that has been in the business for over 30 years and produces highly regarded audio that says never give the signal multiple paths.

My comments only apply to active speaker systems where you have a separate cable feeding each driver. They do not apply to a system with a single cable feeding a passive crossover.
