WRT Audio connections, low mass is usually better, even if they look cheap.
Sudden changes in "sectional density" can cause issues.
For speaker connections, these tube connectors are a good example of a smooth transition from one piece of wire to the next.

These "Wago-style" connectors have taken over the junction box wiring market.

I won't comment on whether they are any good for that application, as I am not qualified.
In general though, most innovations designed to make a professional's job easier, faster, and more foolproof will increase the number of ways that an amateur can screw it up.

As far as I am concerned the following link will take you to just about best banana plugs money can buy. They are aggressive for a tight fit and can be soldered.
