Great presentation of modern DACs

I just finished a video of a presentation given last year by an AES member on how modern DACS achieve 32 bit performance and if it is really necessary. If you are a member, it is worth watching as it goes into the internal methods used in the DACs to achieve high quality output and the pitfalls. I'm including the introduction and summary slides.

tomp,
Thanks for the presentations on 32bit DAC's. Will be interesting reads.

Unfortunately those two pdfs are just the introduction and summary, not the meat. I suspect a lot of folks here would disagree with the summary in general. I do agree with it.

Thanks, Tomp,

Any chance on posting the details in the middle of the presentation?

Thanks! :)

While on this topic does anyone know anything about the following kit -

My interest in 8-channel dacs is for use in a stereo dsp crossover.

Way to long with not only lots of slides, but you need the commentary as well. Some things you need to go to the original to get the full info.

Practical analog circuity can't support 24bits, never mind 32....

Correct, but the rational is not to get greater dynamic range but to allow digital volume control without increase in noise. That is a worthwhile objective.

The AK4499 32bit DAC's digital attenuator with 0.5dB steps is very transparent compared to analog volume controls in my headphone amps.
