That is seriously weird. It looks like someone's DIY project, not an actual marketed turntable. But I looked it up, and it was introduced in 1988.

I thought it was an April Fool's product. Like the Lirpa Labs stuff in the April issues of Audio magazine.

Paul,
Don't disagree with you, though the term concrete is not very specific, you can have a polymer concrete that is pretty dead, in fact, it is used for shock and vibration isolation on machinery. Corian is an example of a polymer concrete, for instance, an acrylic/alumina composite. Glass does ring, as does alot of other materials, and often increasing thickness helps. Rega, of course, comes to mind concerning use of glass turntable platters, and at least the Thorens appears about 2X as thick as Rega platters are. But I suspect you are right. Not sure if this wasn't just a concept table, except that I have seen two photos each with different tonearms installed, so maybe they did sell a few.

I think that is sort of cool looking.

Looking at it, I thought...what if you made a turntable from a manhole cover? The base of the Thorens kind of looks like the top of poured cement sewer pipe for a manhole cover.
