I read reviews of the RME DAC and comparison of the DACs in the price range.
IIRC, ADI-2 distinguishes itself from the others with good display and a ton of features.

In the same range, Denafrips Ares-II at under $900 R2R DAC is probably the best. It has analogue like sound with good stage but the top end is little rolled off.
Topping D90 is supposed to be resolving and provide impactful sound but no sound stage.

Chord Qutest is very good DAC. You can get it sound $1200 used.

Check out this DAC comparison.

Not going to happen.

Headphone users constitute a very big share of DAC marker. None of the PCs, apple or intel, have I2S interface. They don’t need to. USB is a natural output protocol for PCs.

I2S is only used in audio/video electronics to move digital data inside the systems. PCs have very efficient and elaborate channels to move data around.
