Re: Why I'm not buying an M-Scaler, at least not soon....

Roscoe,

I am trying different configurations this afternoon. The combination poly-sinc-ext2 filter and Gauss1 dither for PCM has better focus and imaging than Sinc-L and LNS15 combo I was using. Probably the best combo I tried so far.

Playing around with Spring 3 DAC for a couple of days. It’s still going thru burn in process. Spring is true NOS DAC for both PCM and DSD. Original Redbook and PCM sources sound very good with this DAC. I cannot definitely say HQPlayer is improving the sound anymore. Things do sound different with HQPlayer, whether that change is a desired improvement, I do not know at this time. Need the let the DAC fully burn in first. Linux based HQP is unable high sampling rates of DSD1024 and PCM 1.5MHz. I think HQP custom libs need to be installed.

Fun stuff.

If you mean the M-Scaler, they seem to be changing hands quite regularly, and I'm not sure why. The Dave's are pretty hard to find and quite expensive.

Here's the listings from CA over the past year. Must be a dozen M-Scalers come and gone.

At $12.5K, the Chord Dave is expensive but is well worth it compared to other DACs less than $20K. There are 12 used Dave DACs on hifishark.com for roughly $8K. The Chord Dave is still the top of the line for a Rob Watts DAC.
