If only. AES/EBU, Ethernet, USB, and HDMI are different and similar in that no two designs are alike. So -- I have to ask -- what standards? Manufactured products are all over the place and the same goes for the electronics (sources and receivers).
Even with S/PDIF 75-ohm -- manufacturers do it in RCA and 50-ohm BNC connections and "call it" 75-ohm. WTF?!

Sounds like a pure academic exercise.
Any new transport medium for digital audio should be better than USB and I2S, not the other way around.
Can you post the abstract?
