I was a big fan of VanAlitine when I was in my short pants days of audio. Then much later maybe 10 years ago I bought one of his new SS amps with tube gain stage. I thought it was terrible and sent it back and was totally trashed by rhecAVA fan boys on AudioCircle for saying anything negative about the great g-d VanAlistine Any way the following quote is from a PTA review of his latest and greatest “….. Frank told me one reason the DVA M225 sounds so great is that through ear testing and measuring, extremely high-frequency oscillations waaay past the conventional audible limit were detected. These nasty oscillations were discovered to result from various parts in the circuit interacting with the ground plane and setting up resonances. AVA uses Zobel-like networks to ground at various spots in the circuit to “sponge” away the ultra-high frequency trash. This prevents interaction with gain stages that occur in the audible ran……” What do you think? |

I think he had a circuit that wasn't stable and had to figure out how to make it more stable. But I'm no expert. |

Wouldn’t it just be easier to design a stable circuit |

May not be easier to design a proper circuit but definitely the only way to go. Crutches and band aids ultimately give poor results. Tom |
