Walt,

It depends if the outer annulus is driven by a motor, or if is passive. Coaxial drivers have a long history, as well as bi-cone or tri-cone drivers that use a common motor, just different radiating surfaces (with or without an edge surround to the main cone. This is unique in that the outer annulus is not driven or coupled to the speaker that is active. Coupling is mechanical/acoustical.

They changed the rules for patents a few years ago... Prior art is no longer relevant, the only thing that matters now is first to file....

I get that -- my problem is that there are those that think they are "inventing the wheel" yet these "wheels" have been around for decades. The real problem is that old tech dies with the inventors.

Then I presume the patent office awards a patent on tech that has been in the public domain for decades. I really do think that the patent officials are too quick to award a patent based on limited research.
