A new specification has been proposed to allow up to 240W of power availability on a USB C connector.

Hard to believe the USB type C connector can handle that much power

Power isn't the issue, current is. That 240W is 5A at 48V....

Need to beef up the wire gauge to handle the current. 240W at 48V/5A is alot to push down thin wire for a typical USB Type C cable. Safe current for 24 ga. copper is around 3.5A, would need to go to at least 22 ga. wire.

It's amazing that the new spec is 10 times the original USB. Before you know it they will probably come with a whole house generator attached.

Yes, using the new GaN SMPS USBC 45watt supply and the cable is rated for 100 watts. That is 20V@5A, but the current does not go up at lower voltages. Probably due to connector pins in the USBC plug/jack more than wire diameter.
