This poor fellow committed suicide basically because of an intolerable case of Tinnitus as a side effect of Covid 19 infection. What a drag.

I can only imagine what an incessant screeching in your ears could do to your life. I have *mild* tinnitus and take note of it every now and then. It does not inhibit me by any strecth. But I have heard that extreme cases will drive a person mad.

Terrible to have lost both a flute and a job due to a momentary oversight. Hold onto instruments tightly!

It is too bad that more musicians do not have musical instrument insurance. It is really cheap. I have about $40,000 of instruments (handmade recorders of various types, sizes and pitches), and only pay around $300/yr. Never had to make a claim, but whenever you travel or ship an instrument for repair (or even have an instrument sent for approval), it is covered.

So, another interesting story about hearing and how we listen. Just watched this movie that was released last fall and picked up by Amazon if you have the service. Recommended.

So, are women actually shrill or are the men designing the technology lazy?

Short podcast worth the listen. For those who don't listen, spoiler alert, men drop the ball as usual.

It's the August 18th 2021 broadcast.

I haven't noticed any particular shrillness in women's voices over radio or TV. What I have noticed is that a number of women have a nasal sound to their voices. Few men seem to have that.
