Great piece. The thing that impressed me the most was the statement you can't just listen to the sound, you have to listen to the idea. For me, the reason I spend so much time on audio is so I can better hear the emotion that is being put into the music during the performance by the artist. Often the subtle details such as finger sounds on strings or breath sounds of a vocalist greatly expand the link between the music and the emotion behind the music. As he said, music is life.

If you get a chance you might also want to watch the movie "The Sound of Metal" which is about a rock musician that loses his hearing and how he learns to cope including getting a cochlear implant and how it affects his life. It has been nominated for an academy award.

Thanks for the link Tom, I'll check out that movie.
I thought that fellow in the Stereophile video was quite remarkable. Inspiring, really. It made me remember seeing small groups of people at some Dead concerts holding balloons but I'd never thought about why.

The woman interviewed in the Podcast who was completely deaf and wore the Cochlear implants and talked about the complete silence when she turned them off was interesting. We all know what a quiet place "sounds" like, but don't have any idea what silence is like.

I have been in an anechoic chamber and also at Riverbank labs founded by Wallace Sabine which is a totally reflective room. Both were disturbing, but the totally reflective worse.

Okay, I'm just going to use this thread for interesting things that have to do with sound/hearing.
This poor fellow committed suicide basically because of an intolerable case of Tinnitus as a side effect of Covid 19 infection. What a drag.
