It is obvious the Crow is at a much higher level than Heinz. Heinz is a woodworker leaning about audio while Crow is pro.
This really gives you great perspective of why horns are so interesting. The advantages are obvious.

In my experience, speaker diffraction and room acoustics are the biggest enemies if high quality audio.
In that video, the first experiment is an wave guide, not an horn. The increase in efficiency is due to reducing the dispersion at wide angles.
The second experiment is an conical horn, looks about right size for the low frequency.

The Elsinore speakers I built last year uses horn loading (or waveguide) on the tweeter for exactly the same reason as Crowe describes, it decreases distortion and allows crossing over with a first order crossover at a lower frequency than one would normally use out of concern for tweeter power handling. Nice CNC work on the baffle, looks like a great project if you want to build small monitors. One could really have fun with a CNC router!
