Any other recommendations on cases, as well as motherboards? I normally use Antec cases and Asus motherboards.

I like Coolermaster also I feel they are definitely worth the few dollars more cost over Antecedent. They are just better made.

He are two Cooler Master cases I have. The large one is my main computer and has 8 hard drive in it (room for fourteen including hot swap). The smaller (still large) is one of my HTPC machines. Both cases have two hot swap drive slots and two optical drive slots.

and lots of quite fans.

One of the reasons I have large cases is that I like to play with the guts of my machines (I built both of them) modifying (swapping sound and video cards) them and access is very easy on these cases. Note that no tools are needed for installing hard drives.

As a side note: I just noticed that the bottom front of the case has a screen filter. I never knew either case had that. I cleaned one. Will work on the other later.

I will look at the new cases recommended. Any motherboards recommendations?

There are plenty of free utilities that monitor CPU temperature
Modern club's throttle back if they approach 80 C

Pick a cpu then pick a motherboard. I like AMD Ryzen cpu's. Here is an example -

If you have an operating system on one hard drive, can you copy it to another drive and it boot up?

Depends on how you copy it... If you just copy the files, no. If you do a complete disk copy, probably. Of course, if it's Winblows it probably won't be activated after you copy...

If it is windows it has to be the same motherboard and cpu that the original hard drive was attached to and you copy the disk image. If the motherboard or cpu change you need to install windows from scratch and then copy your files (not the windows files). You can only install the copy of windows you have on a new system from the installation dvd or flash drive if it is portable. If is an OEM copy you are out of luck.
