GREAT!!!

One other thing, the Ubuntu Netbook edition was merged into the Desktop edition for Ubuntu 11.10. If you downloaded the 10.10 release, this is several years old and does not have 10 years worth of security patches and application upgrades. The current Desktop edition should have all the support and optimization needed. I would NOT recommend installing it.

Also, I believe the Atom processor on you Dell Mini is a single core 64 bit processor. So theoretically, it can run the 64 bit version. It probably makes little difference, I have read it can be slightly faster, but since most 64 bit processors are multi-core, it may not be as optimized. The fact you are only dealing with 2 GB of installed memory means that you will not come into addressing issues using the 32-bit version.

If it is the Ubuntu 18.10 32 bit version, and it works, don't change anything. You do NOT want to use the legacy Ubuntu 10.10 NetBook version for the reason I stated before, it does not have the security upgrades.

The machine is not going to be a speed demon, but then, neither is a Raspberry Pi, which runs Linux as well (ARM architecture).

That laptop MAY be old enough to only work with 32-bit OS. Not sure if Daphile still has a 32-bit version. D/L what they have, put it on a thumb drive, if it'll boot off the thumb drive, you should be good to go. I think Stuart ran Daphile on a netbook a while back, but don't know if it was the 32 or 64bit version...

I used 32bit. It starts to boot/load from USB, then the screen goes all weird. Anybody know what the issue is?

Is there any other basic music server IOS to play music?

I believe Volumio is headless (or at least that is how I run it). Really, the best solution these days if all you are using it for is a music server/renderer, and considering the hardware you are working with, is get a Raspberry Pi 4 4GB version. You can connect your USB drive to the USB3 port, and Digital USB out to the USB2 port. Cheap and easy.

I want to use Daphile or similar music server IOS, but it will not load. I can't figure out Volumio. It doesn't have USB loading instructions. So far, I played around with Rhythmbox. It has nothing for streaming channels.

You don't want to pay for JRiver? Look at Kodi.
