And, unless you are using full range single driver speakers, or digital crossovers, there is another potential phase inversion

When designing my ZOTL Pre One I put a phase invert switch in because some people thought it was important. I was very careful to do the circuitry in a balanced way so that there was no extra circuitry for the in phase vs the reversed phase. I have never been able to hear a difference. I am indeed surprised by this result.

The recordings that I seem to be the most sensitive to are the RCA Living Stereo recordings either 2 or 3 track recordings.

The recording path was inverted polarity from what I have read. They sound different to me when I flip the polarity. Better base and more high end to strings.

Same here. I know my preamp inverts and pretty sure everything else does not(based on published info). So I flip polarity at the speaker output on the power amps. Having the subs out of phase is based on on listening

Absolute phase is the least of one's worries when it comes to audio kit. Don't worry about the "mice" just take care of the "elephants." So to speak.

Elephants are supposed to be afraid of mice :music-listening: At least changing absolute phase is free...

The trouble is -- when you're done with the "elephants" the "mice" will drive you
nuts. ;)

Not driving me nuts, free and easy to do. Easy with a digital polarity control on the DAC. Just change it to see.

Simple single driver headphones are interesting as well with a polarity inversion control.

Fun stuff to do when it is cold outside.
