Found some good resources to save a ton of $$ on big budget electronics.

I am moving the 60" Panasonic Plasma TV from the family room to the bedroom and getting LG OLED 65" TV for the family room. The model I choose is list priced at $4,000 and listed at $3,150 in all the electronic stores. Manufacturers do not let the retailers advertise less than that price.

Last Monday when I was in Ocean City, came across a nice one day deal, for $2250 shipped on slickdeals.net and sold by buydig. That is $900 less than BestBuy or Amazon prices. Unfortunately, I did not have credit card. Couple of days ago, came across an interesting site, greentoe.com. You name the price you are willing to pay and Greentoe passes it to "authorized" dealers. My offer for $2300 is accepted.

If you are going to be in market for big budget electronics this holiday season, try these two sites. Avoid ebay as most of the stuff there is grey market.

buydig.com is a scam, good luck actually getting the great deal they advertise.

If its too good to be true it probably is. With big purchases, specifically electronics, I like dealing with people I know and have a good safe return policy. Cost is not the only value.
The argument that hifi dealers charge way too much has always been out there. Dealers have a value add of good service, advice, installation, etc.
But if you feel you know everything, maybe this is not a value to you. Since I do not know everything about everything, so I choose customer service over price.

I dont have experience with buydig. When I called them last Tuesday, they were already sold of the model I am interested in. They are expecting stock right before Thanksgiving. Beech Camera is expecting stock next week.

Both Beech Camera and BuyDig are authorized LG internet dealers. I had positive experience with Beech Camera in the past. Greentoe also is holding my offer for fulfillment next week closer to Thanksgiving.

Saving nearly $900 on a TV is a big deal. Instead of dealing directly, I am going thru Greentoe and Paypal, two levels of protection if something bad happens. Online users have positive experiences. I will update my experience after receiving the unit.

There can be good deals out there but please remember that some of these items sold as new can be returns or refurbished electronics. They can also be items that are not selling well or items that have a history of problems or defects. If you want new then buy from the manufacturer or manufacturer's authorized dealers for greater assurance and less hassle if there is a problem. If you want cheap then third party resellers might be the best source for overstocks, returns, and cosmetic defects that can be sold as new. If you want the cheapest then Audiogon or ebay might be the best source for new or used equipment.

Let the buyer beware

You can buy TV's anywhere. What about audio gear?

Audio gear?! There still remains a couple of dealers in the D.C. through to Delaware. As you know they are full retail. Of course if you take the drive to Delaware you can at least save on sales tax. There are a couple of dealers on eBay that sell their trade-ins that way. Just be careful because I found out the hard way when they say their stuff is tested and completely viable it is wishful thinking. But at least the dealer offered to take the piece back or reimburse me for reasonable repairs.
