This type of review just drives me crazy

I have been to demos for stuff like this and one is talked into hearing differences. DB has a great story on why one does hear diffences. Dave explains that every time one hears a music sample one hears more details because the brain learns, whether any equipment changes or not.

I guess this is what keeps this industry alive, such that it is

I've heard that cocaine does the same thing, and is much cheaper.

It’s called, “making a living”.

You have to remember that you do not see or hear with your eyes or ears alone but mainly with your brain. Your brain is very adept at seeing or hearing what it wants to. That has been proven many times with tests that cause your brain to see or hear what is simply not there and certainly is true of eye witness testimony in trials. Ultimately the test must be a listening test as that is why we do all this. However, you should only be considering the actual sound and eliminating all the other variables such as other people's opinions and preconceived notions based on price or brand.

As I have mentioned several times before there are two life rules that are important to me:

1. Don't lie
2. If you are stupid enough to violate rule #1, don't do it to yourself.

I have (subjectively) heard power conditioning products, isolation transformers, etc. hurt the sound quality of a system. Is it possible they can improve it? I imagine so, but I'd like to listen to them sometime in a double blind session.

Almost every power conditioner/isolation device I have heard has resulted in poorer sound quality. Some areas might sound cleaner but it usually is subjectively worse overall IMHO. It is a matter of selecting the one which does the least damage.

A single IPA will do that and you don't have to worry about getting arrested!

Best idea is to build the power supplies right and not worry about conditioners.

As far as I am concerned (this after listening to his "show" at the CAF) is that the only difference between Denny and a 19th-century snake-oil salesman is that Denny drives a car. :angry-tappingfoot:
