I was just advised that Paul Elliott passed away. I understand it might have been liver cancer.

He had no bad habits. Cooked healthy meals and played with his "toys" as we all do.

Knowing his medical history I certainly didn't see liver cancer taking him out.

Walt,

That is terrible, and I am so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. He will be missed.

Thanks for letting us all know.

I understand that liver cancer wasn't even on their "radar." I recall that Paul complained of pass health issues that could not be diagnosed.

He was frustrated and worried. It could have been his liver the entire time causing high-jinks. I guess we'll never know for sure since he was Jewish.

Jewish law generally prohibits autopsies.

Well, consulting Dr. Google, it seems that liver cancer is difficult to detect in the early stages. Symptoms are non-specific, unexplained abdominal pain, loss of weight, fatigue or weakness, abdominal swelling, back pain, nausea, itching, yellowing of the eyes or skin (this is probably pretty specific). The only treatment when in the advanced stages is palliative care. Risk factors include Hepatitis B or C infections, excessive alcohol use (leading to cirrhosis), long term exposure to aflatoxins (from fungus growing on certain grains and nuts), fatty liver disease, Type 2 diabetes, etc.

Again, sorry to hear about Paul.

David

It is very sad to hear of Paul's passing. He was a large factor in not only our group but also audio in general with his writings. He will be missed.

Terrible news, and truly unexpected. Paul was definitely one of the good guys.

Paul previously had some of those symptoms and I am shocked that his doctor(s) did not at least explore that possibility until it was too late. Are we still frozen in 19th century medical practice? WTF?!

So sorry to hear that Paul has passed.

It was always great to get to talk to him at shows and here in the group. Also all the great photo's along the way.

To all:

There was no obituary in the Sun as yet -- if at all. Paul being Jewish there will not be a funeral as such, but maybe a memorial event after burial.

I don't know at this point. I only have Paul's phone number and eMail.

If you wish to extend your condolences to Amy, here is her info:

Amy Oosterhout
5503 Carter Avenue
Baltimore, MD 21214-2757

Do not send flowers.
