System has now been upgraded with a CX2310 Behringer replacing the DCX2496. Same settings of 100Hz, 24dB/octave. 2310 has Linkwitz-Riley alignment, Had the 2496 set for Butterworth.

Thanks to Roscoe for discovering this ($80 STEAL). At the show, he proved how well it worked. Sounds better than the 2496 top to bottom. Picking it, it might be said that the highest octaves aren't quite as clean and silky as they might be, but this is far from sure. Only have two hours of listening in. Desperately need to make some new XLR-to-RCA cables. The ones in use now are using DH Labs Silver Sonic cable which has proved to be excellent for bass, but to have the same sort of treble fuzziness heard here.

Going to try out J-Rob's giveaway cable (RJ223?) in paired sets (thanks for the idea Tubedriver) to keep the signal contained withing the shields. Fingers crossed on that one. If that doesn't work, back to the old multiple runs of Cardas 17.5 that sounds so good.

As to the transport, the CAL Delta is connected to the Monarchy DIP, then on to the China Lite DAC50 (totally different output stage from stock). The Delta has an XLR output. Plans are to try it straight into the DAC (to which a balanced input has been added in place of the optical input). Just haven't gotten to that yet. [Kind of lazy here, spent the weekend drinking adult beverages with good friends on the Potomac near Antietam!]

Bottom line on the transport is that digital sounds amazing on the rig now. Amazing. Focus, dynamics , definition from deep bass on up like my rig has never had.

When the USB DAC stuff shows up and the computer music rig is setup, it'll be very interesting to hear an improvement, if any the is using the same source material. Honestly, it seems implausible that it could be much better, without different speakers, etc.

Thanks to all of you that made this improvement happen!

As soon as the phono rig is sorted out, it would be lots of fun to have a REAL club meet up north!

For now, just listening to music is very, very enjoyable! Who wants to solder?

Stuart
