I was never too crazy about the metal-plate 845s. To me it's the graphite plate that gives it that nice heft and growl.

A lot depends on the entire system -- my experience has been that the graphite-plate version acts like a wrongly applied band-aid that suppresses the fine inner detail and a grainy quality that the metal-plate version isn't hobbled with.
