Well Ray -- yes there are seats in some halls that are under upper tiers or mezzanine levels. However, the back of the upper tiers is a good place to be. Probably the very best of the best can be experienced at the Lyric. It is old school and was done with the best audience experience in mind and no intent to use PA enhancement since it wasn't even available when the Lyric came out the ground in 1894. Whatever -- the pressure zone boundary applies to the home experience as well. Middle of hall -- middle of room -- you have a null. In the home it can manifest itself as a thin sound -- in a hall it can manifest itself as diffuse and smothering. Even recording or PA enhanced performances can be better. Before FM wireless microphones, theaters used an array of pressure-zone microphones along the stage. They picked up the first arrival. Listen to Mapleshade recordings as an example. Pierre Sprey uses his home-brew pressure-zone microphones to good effect. |

If you guys want to continue discussing hall acoustics, please move it to it's own thread... Roscoe |

The front baffle are complete. Now to add the horizontal stringers to mount the FPS planar drives and attach the side wings.

Lots of soldering and wiring to get the ChipAmp modules for the line array's built and working. Fourteen channels built and most tested.

Being able to adjust the vertical dispersion is going to be a game changer for your room acoustics, I predict. I tested some line arrays for my church sound system, and the pattern control was amazing. We were able to almost eliminate back slap off the big back wall. http://www.renkus-heinz.com/iconyx |

I wonder how it would sound if you used FedEx boxes instead? |

Oak stringers cut and ready to glue to the baffle to mount the FPS planar drivers. Next drill the holes to mount the drivers, add the wings and wire up the drivers.
