Re: Open Baffle Planar servo sub speaker project

Still waiting on my friend to cut the top headers down for the baffle to fit the ribbons. I do not have a table saw to do a good straight cut. No use in getting one as I am terrible with working with wood.

Me too, but I have two table saws anyway ;)

I would cut off body parts if I had one. Been way to many years since shop class.

After some baffle rework, have the 4 ribbon tweeter arrays installed in The Megalith baffles.

The second phase will be a trial with the DSP crossover with 8 channels, where the final phase will include the 16 channel version.

Will see how the new wiring goes to the tweeter amps.

Hey Hal,

I just quick connected up a pair of Neo3 shallow closed back tweeters. Used a $19.95 T-amp and tube'd Magnavox (TDA1541) CD player. I understand why you are doing what you are. That tweeter is amazing! Need to do some comparison listening with the Fountek NeoCD 1.0's and the Fountek NeoX 2.0s I have, but the initial impression is that the Neo3 is much better! Wow.

BTW, PE is showing that the tweeters are finally in stock, if it's true.

Stuart,
Yes, PE got them instock. I decided to go with Greg Takesh's ribbons instead, as they were available. Will see what happens with the Neo10 and ribbons when I get them tested in the baffles.

Well The Megaliths open baffle ribbon/planar/servo sub array stage 2 came alive this week with the simplified digital and passive crossover until the 16 channel version is available. Listening with the Greg's ribbon tweeters has been very good so far, and should improve with the added flexibility of the added channels. No idea when the 16 channel version will be available.

Will be making some measurements and use MathAudio RoomEQ for digital replay and see what happens.

Fun part will be trying the new ADC that does not have linear phase filtering, as the entire path does not. Need to get the table and phono stage setup.

Did another demo of The Megaliths for Dan who bought a pair of my old speakers. Bob was over as well. The session was short, but sounded very good to everyone.

Stage 2 is working well. The digital crossover with the new HiRez DAC's sounds much improved to me.

Hal, how high in frequency can the H-Frame OB servo subs be run? What filter alignment and slope?

Thanks,

Stuart

The OB sub can go up to 300Hz. I have it set to 125Hz with a Butterworth 2 pole 125Hz for HP and LP.

The hard part is the 14 different time delays for the subs, mids and ribbons for the beamformer. Only have 8 working so far with the existing DSP crossover.
