Based on a request in the thread about my speakers, I'm starting a thread about how to build your own panels.
Supplies: insulation batts such as Corning 701, 703, or Roxul; furring strips of appropriate size to the insulation thickness used; wood glue; screws; spray glue; and acoustically transparent fabric (you can get speaker grill cloth or use the "wind test" by holding your hand behind it and blowing through the fabric).
Tools: tape measure, saw of any type, drill, and staple gun.
The build process is to first cut the appropriate lengths of furring strips to build frames that will go around the insulation. Glue and screw these pieces together.

With the frame built, attach fabric to the back using staples. Trim the excess after stapling.

Spray glue into the back fabric to keep the insulation from slumping (depending on insulation used, you may be able to skip this step) and fit the insulation into the frame.
