An 18" woofer isn't, necessarily, any harder (or easier) to move/control than a 7" woofer.....

Don't you have to fill that huge 3" voice coil with current?

Isn't that what a transformer does? The more current you need the bigger the transformer has to be?

Of course all this just shows why I'm no expert, but isn't any of it common sense?

Bottom line is that I think the amp is ok. I try not to ask it for too much! It doesn't outperform my other amp, but it does do a lot of stuff I like!

If I start building anything other than small, simple 2-ways, I'll make sure to get your advice about how to drive them!

Thanks,

Chris

If you are going to be at Roscoe's on Sunday I'll go throught the details of how a dynamic driver works and what the different parameters mean.

Thanks Tom,

I know a lot about speakers (cabinets mostly) from trial and error, but I'm still sort of a novice regarding technical details.

That sounds interesting! I'll see if I can make it.

Just FYI, if anyone is still paying attention to my tube adventure: I have comments after several more hours of audition.

I have some criticisms now, rather "a" criticism, but after getting through a lot more of my favorite recordings, I'm finding that the Midbass is a little bit thin with these tubes. It seems like the price you pay for a little bit of extended Low Bass and a little bit of increased intelligibility in the Midrange/Highs, is that the midbass gets a little thinner. It's kind of like when you stretch a rubber band out in both directions, and the mass in the center suddenly gets a lot smaller/thinner. I find this happens a lot with Cables too. Also, Fuses, and Speakers/Cabinets, although Speakers might be a little bit more complex phenomenon.

If anyone has had a similar experience, let me know!

Sorry, that was too much work to lose. I'm done here.

Did your post have anything in it relevant to the thread since you tried to post it till now?

What's up with that?

I'm going back into forum retirement.

Same with you Rob,

Sorry about your problem, but If you had something you wanted to say, then I want to hear it!

I had lots relevant to say. At this point, I'd rather chat by phone. Tomorrow evening is good if you are available. (410) 919-8750
