this is a very good point Tom.
Last year I bought a old Craftsman cast iron top table saw from craigslist. After finding the shop manual on the web I disassembled completely cleaned, reassembled and went through the painstaking alignment procedure outlined in the manual. I have been awarded with good performance since.
I have also found most new tools from the factory are not very square either and need adjustment.

I also use an old Crasftsman cast iron saw and went through a lengthy alignment process when I first got it and then when we moved to MD. Amen to everything needs to be checked.
