Building 4-Way Active Speakers from a Madisound Kit

Look at the picture and you will know which Madisound kit it is -

Next step is finishing and assembling the sub-woofer cabinets.

LX521 kit is nice.

Did a dspMusik 2x8 DSP crossover at one point for them, but their forum members shut it down because they did not do it.

Should work well with a DSP crossover.

The plans include a configuration file for the new miniDSP Flex 8 processor -

Since I already had the Flex 8 and enough channel of amplification I could not resist. Most of the time will be finishing the wood. The only question is what ADC should I use so I can play my records on the system since the Flex 8 only has digital inputs. Initially I will use an ASUS sound card ADC on my htpc.

What's going on with that three-way speaker you were building?

I got impatient since the horn system required building everything from scratch. The LX521 kit would be more immediately gratifying. Once I realized I had all the necessary electronics I put the DIY system on the back burner and got the LX521 kit. I liked the idea that both Linkwitz (LX521) and Keele (CBT36K) emphasize control of the beam pattern.

Aren't they already build?

:confusion-confused:

I built one horn speaker from scratch and it took a long time and is big and heavy (to move it I have to remove all the drivers). I can finish the kit and finish the wood in less time than it takes to build another horn. On top of that the kit is Baltic Birch plywood and the horn speaker is MDF. The Baltic Birch finishes (in the woodworking sense) much better than the MDF. Each channel of the LX521 is in three pieces so I can move it much easier and it does not overwhelm the listening room and just looks better than my MDF monster.
