If you read this link the bloke goes into some of his reasoning. Isolation from the floor appears to be part of it, particularly of the woofers.

I am also interested in weight and WAF issues. If I think it worthwhile, I will do different speaker stands that look better and not be too massive. I will see what I can do to make the buckets less visible.

And of course, I just like to try things out for the fun of it.

Looks heavenly to me.

Buddy, if your spouse is okay navigating over those foil speaker cables to get to the balcony, you don't have any problems with WAF, you've got a keeper.:-)

I saw the terrible flooding on the east coast there last week. Hope you all and family have been safe. Crazy after the drought and Bush fires there this time last year.

My long-suffering spouse has seen a lot worse. I remember the 12 foot long Sonotube I installed in the lounge room for a while. Still, she was pleased to hear the music wafting down the stairs again.

The flooding was over 300 miles south of us or more. We have only had a little bit of rain since we arrived, but there is a possibility of a downpour on Sunday. Of greater concern where I live is storm surge where a cyclone can push water into the bay depending on the cyclone's path.

The latitude is about the same as Key West. Remember that almost half of Australia lies in the tropics.
