Sorry to here this
He was a most unusual guy.
He came to many of the early AFs and for a few years had a room.
I learned a lot about dampening and isolation from him.
I have a few of his recording’s
I hope the company will survive

Very sad news.

Enjoy a lot of his recordings. Have one maple platform and vibration damper feet that I picked up from him at the studio for my turntable.

RIP Pierre

I had several opportunities to interact with Pierre not only on audio matters but aviation. Some of you may not know, that during his engineering career, Pierre was deeply involved with the Department of Defense and was intimate with the development of the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon air-superiority fighter and the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt ground-support fighter. If you wanted to see Pierre animated and critical regarding modern military aviation you had only to bring up the subject of modern 5th-generation stealth fighters. WOW!! :o

His Mapleshade recordings were all Pierre with his anal attention to detail -- his "hot-rodded" 1/2-track recorder, his pressure-zone microphones with those massive Lexan pressure-zone plates, proprietary interconnects, and his enigmatic D/A convertor -- well, his recordings puts you in the room with the musicians.

I only wished he could have had those glorious recordings cut to vinyl, but pressing plants are few this day, with only maybe two capable to do his recordings justice.

I don't know if he has any family that will continue with his business because it would be shame to see the fruits of his labor die with him.

RIP Pierre -- you were one of a kind! :obscene-drinkingcheers:

I'm so sorry to hear of Pierre's passing, he was so detail-oriented and not afraid of experimenting with solutions that were contrary to conventional wisdom!

Pierre wrote up his opinion on the newer do it all wonder planes (it can be an air superiority fighter, a bomber, a hover craft etc etc) and he makes a pretty strong case that when you try to fulfill EVERYONE's wishlists, you end up with something that does everything......poorly.

I can't see Mapleshade as a company surviving his loss, he was clearly the singular driving force behind it all.

I remember when he convinced me to sit down on the floor with him to listen to his system... and damn if it didn't sound better down there.

Godspeed Pierre Sprey.

I remember him sitting in front of Roscoe's open baffles at Gary's house.
