Speaker cables

Anybody just use speaker wire/basic wire with banana plugs on them?

I use 12 ga zip cord or two or four wire jacketed speaker cable with either banana plugs or more recently Speakon connectors which I feel are far superior and not very expensive. The Speakon connectors come in two to eight poles per connector and are locking. Check out the links:

I cannot put into words the level of improvement I got from my system when I installed plenum-rated Andrew Heliax in my system. I am running 35-feet of the cable under my living room floor from my amps. to my speakers and the quality of sound is as if I am connected with nothing more than a one-foot link. What pisses me off was that it took 15-years for me to dust off the roll I had in my basement and even do a trial. This cable definitely steps out of the way.

Are you using in Coaxial mode or are you running two cables per speaker and using the inner conductor for signal and outer conductor as shield?

Straight up as co-ax. I have female PL-259 silver/Teflon connectors attached to the floor below the amps. and speakers terminated with twisted 12-gage stranded pig-tails that feed up through the floor to the amps and speakers. The cables are terminated with male PL-259 connectors. You might say that my house is now part of my audio system.

Makes sense. That's how the cable was designed to be used......

As it turns out that was the only way to successfully terminate the cable. It is a bitch to terminate. You need a big-ass soldering iron because between the connectors and the copper corrugated shield you find yourself soldering to very efficient heat sinks. It doesn't hurt to use a copper piping cutter and thermal stripper to get the job done. It was definitely worth the effort.

Unfortunately Nirvana is a fickle bitch. Just when you think she is satisfied her evil twin makes demands.

Can you make a set for next years C.A.F.?

If the cables are that great, it should make whatever is brought sound better.
