Here is an example of back to back mounting of drivers where they are not visible. This is from an article I did in 1996 for Speaker Builder. I had a closet that was 21' wide by 5'deep with a sloping ceiling in a loft where I had my system. For a sub system I built two boxes that would fit between the wall joists so I could use the closet as an enclosure with the boxes hidden behind the wall. I put grilles over the wall openings so it was all hidden. Each of the boxes had 4 DV12 12" woofers, two facing into the box and two facing out. That system worked very well with prodigious amounts of very clean bass.

The boxes were double walled with cement between the walls. The inner box extended out past the outer box to form a sleeve through the wall joists. The outer box had a binding post connection where the driver leads were connected. Two sets of drivers were wired in parallel and each set was wired anti-phase to the other.
