What am I missing on setting up USB connections? Should it not plug-n-play?

It's Windows 7. It shows up as some kind of generic USB headset.

Is it the Pop-Pulse PCM1796 DAC? If so, it should be plug-n-play. You just need to make sure the player software is using that output. Should show up in Windows 7 Hardware as an audio device.

Yes. Used to be in the main system. (I brought it over to Roscoe's and we played with it).

It's hooked to my PC so I can YouTube at night when I get home after work. It sounds good so far. I plays great on the optical. If step away for a bit (with no video playing), it develops the noise w/no audio on the right side only (pause the YouTube video and noise stops/play and the noise is back).

It shows up as "C-Media USB headphone set".

If you set the default audio output of the PC to CMedia USB Headphone and the input of the DAC to USB it ought to work.

In Windows 7 go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound and select the DAC as the default output device to use. Here is an example.

You can also right click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the screen, click on playback devices, and set the DAC as the default device from there.

DAC/"headphone" is not listed.

1. HDMI
2. Speakers
3. SPDIF (TX0)
4. SPDIF (TX1) this optical works

Where does it show up as C-Media USB headphone set? If the PC recognizes it as a headphone you should be able to set it to the default playback device.

I believe you need a driver. If you can figure out the C-Media chip used you might find the driver here:
