Re: Single-ended or PP?

I made this at least 20 years ago. And here is guess who wearing it. 12AU7 multivibrator actually runs the watch motor. DC to DC converter uses 6 volts. Battery runs it for several hours. Not recommended for accurate time keeping, but music always sounds better when keeping time with it.

;-) Does it run more smoothly with a NOS Telefunkin, or Amperex?

Good one David. Let me see if I can top that.

I received my Tesla watch and it is very cool. Like other "tube" equipment it is quite large and heavy. There are actually two movements for time. One is the minute and hour movement that takes a watch battery. The other is the seconds movement that has it's own watch battery. There is yet a third battery, the ubiquitous CR2032 to run the LEDs that simulate the filaments in the faux tubes.

When you turn the switch on to light up the "filaments" they turn on for 5 seconds and then turn off to save battery power. To turn them back on you have to turn the switch off and on again and the timeout process repeats. I'm including a photo that shows the inside of the case.

I thought I was the crazy one. I am glad there is another one out there.

Now if we can make one with real tubes one for the left and other for the right channel, (and a WAV player) to drive a headphone... and we need a DAC... well, that battery isn't going to do it... I think you need a mini car battery.

If you're near-sighted you could poke your eye out checking the time.

That explains his glasses.

With two tubes, you might even be able to poke out both eyes at once.
